Mission

Reduce the disparity between Black and White adverse maternal, perinatal and infant outcomes, including infant and maternal mortality, by creating a coordinated, equitable and sustainable network for perinatal care based on best practices, evidence based and innovative community solutions that will result in system changes and improved birth outcomes for all babies born in southeast Michigan.

Leadership

  • BSN, MPH

    Ms Anthony has years of executive and board leadership experience and a proven track record of success in health policy development, creating collaborative health care solutions, community health impact strategies, access to care models and health related business solutions. This has involved working in operations, senior management capacities and as CEO. Her various positions have spanned healthcare systems, state, local and national appointments. In fact, Ms Anthony is a first in having served as the health officer at three levels of government, city, county and state. She has also held several high level board seats, including Wayne State University, Western Michigan University Board Chair and Chair of the Detroit Wayne County Airport Authority. In addition, her recognitions and awards for her community service are many, including Distinguished Alumni Awards from both Wayne State University and University of Michigan, School of Public Health, Michigan Women’s Foundation Humanitarian Award, Crain’s Detroit Business 100 Most Influential Women and 100 most Influential Blacks, Michigan’s Most Powerful Women from Corp! Magazine and Alternative for Girls Role Model Award. Most recently, she received the highly prestigious recognition as a

    “Distinguished Warrier” from the Detroit Urban League, and admitted to the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.

    Alethia Carr, is a native Detroiter, who retired as a public health administrator, and former Director of Michigan’s Maternal and Child Health Administration at MDHHS. Alethia is the Health Equity lead consultant to SEMPQIC, and works to improve the perinatal health system, through improvement of equity in health services and birthing outcomes. Alethia has worked as a public health consultant to a variety of states and national organizations since her full time retirement in 2013, with a focus on addressing health equity in perinatal care by recognizing the impact of the social determinants that impact health. Alethia believes all people are entitled to optimal health.

    Alethia serves on several boards of directors, including: Kids Health Connection, a community based agency providing health support services to children and families in the tri-county area; and Oak Village C.A.R.E.S. , a community development corporation in Detroit. Additionally, she is an active, long time member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Church.

    Alethia has a Master’s degree in Business Administration, is a Registered Dietitian and a former Food and Policy Fellow of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. She is a wife, and mother to two adult children.

    She has lived in Detroit, Michigan all her life, and traveled to nearly 40 states, many countries, and several continents.

    A lifelong resident of Detroit and graduate of Detroit public schools and universities, Iris Taylor has dedicated more than 45 years to improving the health and welfare of the citizens of Detroit through her professional career and volunteer service. Iris is an achiever in every sense of the word. She received her bachelor and master’s degrees in nursing and her Doctor of Philosophy from Wayne State University. She also completed her management fellowship at the Wharton School of Business. Her career has included a variety of positions including that of practitioner, educator/consultant and hospital president/CEO. Iris has served two terms as President and as CEO of Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center. She served as Chief Business Officer for the Detroit Medical Center and was president of Harper University Hospital and Hutzel Women’s Hospital. Taylor left her position as President and CEO of the Detroit Institute for Children to become the first Detroit Medical Center’s Chief Nursing Officer. Iris is an adjunct professor at Wayne State University in two prestigious colleges/schools--College of Nursing and School of Medicine.

    She is very dedicated to the community and has served in leadership positions on many local boards of directors. She served as president of Detroit Public School Community District’s Board as well as the vice chair of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority). Iris has been honored numerous occasions for her leadership and contribution to the community.
